Tonto Natural Bridge State Park

One of our anniversary activities this year was to go to the Tonto Natural Bridge State Park in Payson. It was pretty neat! I knew we were doing some surprise activities, but I didn't know that we were going to this park or that it even existed. Kenyon was really excited about it.

After the park we were going to Kohl's Ranch to stay in their lodge and go horseback riding. Kohl's Ranch is.....different. We checked in and checked right back out, then headed to Mesa. However, Kenyon was so thoughtful...he's a great husband!

My Latest Project

I made a money lei for my sister in law who just graduated from Mountain View High School, hence the blue and red ribbons.

I received a similar one for my graduation from BYU, and used it as a template. It's all made out of ribbon, except of course for the dollar bills. Although it's not as fragrant as a real flower lei, it's still pretty neat.

NEW BOOK

My friend Megan gave me the book "Moloka'i" to read. I have just gotten into the Second Chapter, and I love this book! It is so good. I know it's supposed to be a tear jerker, but I love it already. The book starts out on the island of O'ahu during the end of the reign of King Kalakaua and the beginning of the reign of Queen Liliuokalani. I also know it's about the Leper Colony in Kalaupapa on the island of Moloka'i.

Every place mentioned so far on the island of O'ahu...I know exactly where these places are (SIGH) Makes me miss home more, and of course it makes Kenyon hear the words he dreads, "I want to go home...just for a visit. I miss the ocean" :)

THE ARIZONA SUNDOGS, ALTHOUGH ONLY IN OUR SECOND YEAR! JUST DEFEATED THE DEFENDING CHAMPIONS, THE COLORADO EAGLES, IN A SERIES SWEEP!!!

HOLY MOLEY!

There are only 14 minutes left in the last period of the Sundogs game! We are up 5-2! AND we just got Bridges, the Eagles goalie PULLED and replaced with their other goalie!!! It's such an exciting game and I'm watching it online in my hotel room in San Diego...I know pathetic! But Kenyon's at Father and Son's Camp with his dad, so I have to represent. :)

SUNDOGS ONE WIN AWAY FROM SWEEP AND PRESIDENT'S CUP

McVicar and Kolanos Lead Arizona to 3-0 Series Lead - The Arizona Sundogs incredible season is just one win shy of completing their quest for the Ray Miron President’s Cup after Wednesday’s 5-2 victory over the Colorado Eagles at the sold out Budweiser Events Center. Rob McVicar was outstanding making 51 saves and Mark Kolanos netted a hat trick leading the path for Arizona to a 3-0 series lead.

Happy Boy's Day!

Tango-no-Sekku or the Boys' Festival is Japan's way of celebrating the healthy growth and development of young boys. (Also celebrated in Hawaii). Currently being recognized more as Children's Day.

This celebration is commemorated partially by the flying of Koi-Nobori, carp-like streamers made of paper or cloth, which fill with wind and seem to swim in the air. Together with long red and white ribbons, the carp are hoisted on a bamboo pole, mounted by a pair of gilded pinwheels, high above the rooftops. A carp is flown for each son in the family, a very large one for the eldest, the others ranging down in size.

The carp has become the symbol of the Boys' Festival because the Japanese consider it the most spirited of fish, full of energy and power; it can fight its way up swift-running streams and cascades. Because of its strength and determination to overcome all obstacles, it stands for courage and the ability to attain high goals. The carp is an appropriate symbol to encourage manliness and the overcoming of life's difficulties leading to consequent success.

In the modern observance of Tango-no-Sekku, a display is arranged in the tokonoma, or alcove, in the guest rooms of Japanese houses. Among the decorations are a miniature helmet, suits of armor, a sword, a bow and arrow, silk banners bearing the family crest and the warrior dolls which represent Kintaro, a Herculean boy who grew up to be a general; Shoki, an ancient Chinese general believed to protect people from devils; and Momotaro, the Japanese David the Giant killer.

Girls are the guests of their brothers on this occasion just as boys are guests of their sisters on the occasion of the Girls' Festival every March 3. Their parents provide them with the traditional delicacies such as Chimaki (sweet rice dumplings wrapped in iris or bamboo leaves) and Kashiwa-Mochi (rice cakes containing sweet bean paste wrapped in oak leaves).

SOOOOO ADDICTED!

We don't watch a lot of television, or really have more than 1 show that we watch, but my friend Katie suggested that we should start watching Lost. So we borrowed Season's 1-3 from her on Friday, and we are addicted. We have 3 more episodes for Season 1 and I can't wait until after Kenyon's softball game tonight to see what happens! I am glad that we get to watch them all for the first time consecutively because the Suspense is killing me and I only have to wait 24 hours! :)

Sundogs Take 2-0 Series Lead Over Defending Champs!

So I asked Kenyon if we could go to Colorado for the playoffs as an early anniversary trip...he said no :( And then I realized I'm going to be in San Diego for a conference anyway.

Hot Tuna Salad

I really like this recipe 1. Because it's easy. 2. I think it's yummy even though it has fish in it. 3. It's quick! And also because I was making this for dinner one night and we unexpectedly had company coming for dinner. I was a little embarassed that this is what we were having, but I ended up doubling the recipe for 4 adults, and we didn't have any leftovers. So either everyone was really hungry or they really liked it.

1 C small elbow macaroni uncooked
1 (6-1/8 oz) can tuna, drained
2 hard boiled eggs, chopped
1 C shredded sharp cheese
2 C celery, sliced diagonally (I don't add this...cooked celery= YUCK!)
1/4 C onion
1/2 C mayonnaise
1 T lemon juice
1 t salt
1/4 t pepper

Prepare macaroni according to package directions; drain. Toss together with remaining ingredients and place in 2 quart dish. Bake at 350 for 15 minues. Serve hot. Refrigerate any leftovers. Makes 3 to 4 servings.
